Srirangam temple is located in the city of Tiruchirappalli on a small island between branches of the rivers Kaveri and Coleroon, stands the massive temple of Srirangam.  The largest templex complex in India and the most revered of the 108 pilgrimage shrines of Vishnu.It is surrounded by seven concentric walls and twenty one towers called gopurams.  Srirangam enshrines a statue of Vishnu reclining on a huge  serpent.  Hindu legend tells that Sage Vibhisan a transported this idol known as Sri Ranganatha from India to Sri Lanka.

Srirangam is a holy place,  especially for Vaishnavates, because their God Vishnu is in the name of “Renganathar” in a sleeping posture  in south Indian language known as Anantha sayanam.  This view could not be seen any where else.  Srirangam has got popular place even in the world itself because of Renganathar temple.  The one more reason is the Geographic location of this island between River Cauvery and Kolidam.  There is a flower market in this place known as “Sathara Veedhi” from where flowers and garlands are exported to various Foreign
countries.

A mango garden is also here.  The name of this garden is “Thatha Chariyar Gardens”.  Tons of mangoes are exported from here every year.
There are three government aided schools, Six primary schools and totally five matriculation schools providing an excellent education.  This place is also famous fro residential apartments.  There are more than 500 apartments in this place.  There are frequent bus services to Srirangam.  Inns and numerous taverns are here to accommodate large number of tourists.  There are three art galleries, people forget themselves in the beauty of antiques and crafts.

The Aadi Bharammotsavam is celebrated in the month of Pangunni and the great Adhyayanotsavam is performed in the month of Margazhi.
The Utsavmurthy is taken out for procession from its inner sanctum on the 120th day of the year.  The echoes of the recitation of the Parabandham hymns can be heard within the thousand pillars.

By Air :  The airport is seven kilometers from the city.  Tiruchirapalli is well connected to Chennai,  Madurai,
Bangalore and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
By Rail : Tiruchirappalli is connected to Chennai, Thajavur, Chidambaram and Madurai and Tiruchirappalli is an important junction of the Southern Railways.
By Road : Tiruchirappalli is well connected by road to Chennai, Madurai, Pondicherry and Thanjavur.
