The memories of the most popular former chief ministers of the state situated on the beach is known as Anna and MGR samadhis which attracts a good chunk of crowd everyday. The Saracenic buildings dotting the other side of Kamarajar Salai a main road along the Marina brings back memories of good old British Raj. The old buildings now housing government offices, such as the director general of police office and Ezhilagam. They wear a charming look in the morning when the sun rises.
The natural beauty of the Marina Beach was enhanced by a facelift by the then Governor Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff in early 1880’s. Some of the beautiful buildings in Chennai located on the beach drive are University of Madras, Chepauk palace, Fort St. George complex formed by the East India company in 1641 and 19th century Presidency college building etc.

Marina Beach can be visited in the early mornings or in the late evenings when the area is surrendered with activities. Food stalls and other entertainers covers the beach. Even though it is worth to visit everyday but Sunday is special. The important state functions is often performed here.
There are facilities for pony rides and Kite flying is a common sport with the children at the beach. Bathing and swimming can be dangerous as the under current is very strong. Otherwise can be done with utmost care.
The best time to visit here is November to February when the weather is cool.

How to reach Marina Beach
By air :
The Anna international and the Kamaraj domestic airport are located at Meenambakkam about 20kms away from the city.
The airport can be reached by road or by suburban trains for which the alighting point is at Tirusulam a km from the airport. There is regular direct flights to Chennai from many major international airlines. There is daily flights to all major cities of the country from the domestic terminal.
By Rail :
Main railway stations : Chennai central and Egmore. From Chennai central station interstate trains orginate while trains operate from Egmore junction to different parts of the state.
It connects all the bus routes and people can reach here from all parts of the Chennai city.
