  • Bhoramdeo temple: 

First among them is Bhoramdeo temple which was built in the period of 7th to 11th Century A.D. Shiva linga in the temple is beautifully carved and the artistic appeal mesmerize the tourists and devotees. This temple is also famous about resemblances  with the sun temple in the Konark and Khajuraho temple. Hence this temple is called as Khajuraho of Chhattisgarh.

Bhoramdeo-Temple-KawardhaThe main temple is in front of a tranquil and cool lake. It has two parts, one is known as ishtika made temple and the other is completely Stone Carved. This temple has been constructed upon a five feet high sprawling platform including a Mandap(shelter), Antraal (passage) and Garbha Grih (the main house of God). The top of the Garbha Grih goes straight to the summit of the temple known as the Kalash. The idols of elephants and lions are carved on the tops to give the temple decorative look. The traces of Rama-katha are also engraved here on stones apart from the idols of various Gods. The tourists from Worldwide come here to look at the carnal sculptures which are beautifully carved which reflects the lifestyle of those  historic periods.

In the north of the temple, there is a brick structured temple which has Garbha Grih as in the main temple. But there is no Mandap in the front and only an open projected wall is there called “Alinda”. Inside the temple, there are the Shiva Linga and idols of Uma Maheshwar. The king and the Queen are standing in the front as the worshipers.

  •  Madwa Mahal :

Madwa Mahal is another tourist location which is actually Lord Shiva Temple. Because of  its shape like of a Marriage function Hall, it is called as “Madwa Mahal”. This place is also known as Dulhadeo. This was built by Nagwanshi emperor Ramchandra Deo in 1349 A.D. The Shiva linga and the Mandap rests upon 16 pillars. The traces of turmeric on the walls indicate that marriage and other rituals must have been performed from time to time.


  • Cherki Mahal :

The brick structured Cherki Mahal is 0.5 km away from Madwa mahal. Built by Nagwanshi emperors in 14th century, here you can find Shiv ling of Lord Shiva in black stone along with the idols of Ganesh,Shiva and Parvati. Compared to Bhoramdeo temple and Madwa Mahal, this Mahal is small in size.

  • Khairagarh:

Indira Arts and Music University 85kms away from Kawardha is another tourist location in Chaattisgarh.

Most visited  tourist attractions in Chhattisgarh include Rukhad swami temple, Danteshwari temple, Mahakali temple, Mahavir temple and Bhadrakali temple.
